Bike gearing is something that is all too easy taken for granted when it is working well. But when it starts to go bad you really do notice it. When you can't get the gear you want or the chain keeps jumping it makes riding your bike a lot less enjoyable. So all the more reason to keep it regularly tuned up and working well.
The most common type of bicycle gearing are derailleur gears. This type of gearing is made up of a cassette of sprockets on the rear wheel which is linked to a front set of chainrings by the chain. The chain is guided across the chainrings at the front by a cable operated chain guide and up and down the rear cassette by means of the derailleur, also operated by a cable.
Most problems with derailleur gears can be resolved by adjusting or replacing the cables. These cables become stretched or dry over time and do have a finite lifespan. If your gears are slipping then it could be that they simply need to have the derailleur adjusted by tightening the cable, but if they are slipping when mostly riding up hill then it could be that the chain and rear cassette are worn and need replacing.
Whatever the problem with your gears, and even if you just want to keep them up together to ensure you never get any problems then we can help. We can tune your gears as part of a bike service for which prices start from just £15 or as a simple gearing only maintenance where prices start from only £5.
